Re: ludology and art

As an illustration of my earlier post, is it a coincidence that Tetris was developed in a (nominally) non-capitalist context? (And hasn't it only gotten shittier as its been absorbed into that economy?) Makes you think ...

Re: What are you reading today/book club

RE cyberpunk, rjbman convinced me to read Gibson, and i really liked Neuromancer. Need to read more of his work stat (not sure where to continue tho). I started Snow Crash by Neal Stephenson but found the corniness (as well as the Orientalism) to be unbearable so I stopped. I also produced a magazin...

Re: What are you reading today/book club

I must not be much of a "cyberpunker" because i've only read the gibson, the GITS film, and although i've heard of DE:HE, I've only actually played the original Deus Ex, which tbf was an extremely good game. I might actually copy this reading list for my own general cyberpunk education pur...

Re: ludology and art

I think one of the main differences and drawbacks of video games as a work of art is their emergence under late capitalism and particularly the computer age. The economic and ideological relations of video games are all fundamentally different than those of the novels, which essentially predate capi...

Re: LGBT talk palace

how can someone identify as a different gender? what does that mean to identify as a different gender it doesn't make sense. A pretty important idea for this is that the binarized gender system is a social construct that's not biologically essential. There's nothing in the DNA of every man that mak...

Re: What are you reading today/book club

I'd like to suggest The Dispossessed by Ursula K. Le Guin as the next book. It's a science fiction book from the 70s that was received warmly by both science fiction and literary communities for its themes, which include "anarchism and revolutionary societies, capitalism, individualism and col...

Re: Here is ramdomthought!

I need to find an artistic outlet that isn't just, Consumerism - The Hobby Consumerism isn't really something you can escape... what you're describing is basically just conspicuous consumption. Which is also a very natural behavior under capitalism. By Consumerism - The Hobby, are you referring to ...

Re: Veganarchism

My point was that people who are making choices for reasons other than your own might find it interesting, but you responded as though everyone who might be reading is of your own perspective. I think this thread has a narrow enough scope: it is called "Veganarchism", not "Meatcapita...

"eating purely vegan is a less effective use of available farmland than some omnivorous diets" would probably be of interest to anyone choosing their diet for reasons related to conservationism/environmental impacts But as I implied in my post, and as the article itself admits in a correc...

You're treating your morals/worldview like forgone conclusions when you respond like this ramseames honestly, what morals/worldview do you expect to encounter in a thread dedicated to veganism and vegetarianism? Re: Veganarchism

bc "what's good for humanity" is nothing but the gross amount of food we produce and sheer acreage of farmland we use, land that is not producing food for humans is wasted, there is a problem of food supply and not food distribution in the world, and "what's good for humanity" sh...

I feel like I have too many ideas and not enough time or expertise to execute them so I'm always left with some half baked projects. Re:

What are the motivations for space exploration? It began with Cold-War paranoia, as a part of an arms race. It has always been about world domination, universe domination, not saving or exploring the world or universe. Space exploration is also a way to exercise the crave our society feels to coloni...

As a mars colonist, virtually all of my time is leisure time (i made all the indeginous Martians my unpaid interns do take soil samples and organize plants and such), which made picking a specific outfit very difficult.
