Re: theory (from books)

(Note how unconsciously we measure the 'effectiveness' of a thing by quantifying its 'ends' or outcomes. Was May '68 a failure because it didn't radically alter the politics of Fran...

Re: theory (from books)

Reading Capital is great, but Harvey's original work is at least as worthwhile, I think. Unlike a lot of marxists, he seems to really care about clarity. I remember reading Brief History of Neoliberalism around the same time as Hardt and Negri's Empire and found it to be much more potent at about a ...

Re: the death and life of great cities

does anyone have any resources on comparing urbanization with colonization? e.g. wealth gap and resource and labor flows between rural and urban areas. imo just as an observation it seems like cities extract resources and labor from rural areas in a manner not unlike that of rich countries extracti...

The Furniture Game

What furniture do you like? What furniture do you hate? Is finding furniture worth the time money and effort? Even if no one ever comes over? We just bought these lounge chairs for our new apartment. The seller is holding them until we move in May but I can't wait to sit in them. https://i.imgur.com...

Re: Ramdom fashion thoughts

I was annoyed that Nike didn't seem to be able to deal with the problem by implementing, for example, captcha checks on their websites. But after reading about the lengths that re-sellers are going to (and the amount of money they're willing to put into this), I don't know how Nike can solve this p...

Re: morning bird report

Are bird feeders good in an urban environment? I've really liked having one out in the country and I think seeing birds out my window would improve my mood when I get back to Chicago.
