Re: Here is ramdomthought!

How are people handling ~all of this~? Spending any time with friends? What does that look like? Is there going to be a correction in the housing market so that people can own homes again?

Re: Here is ramdomthought!

I've been registering people to vote here in town, and it's been going well, but the actual amount of people who whole-heartedly believe in blatant misinformation is startling. I would say >50% people I interact with think antifa is coming to town to destroy property and that they are doing their ci...

Re: The Great Outdoors (backpacking & hiking thread)

Got out to the wind river range to escape a bit: https://imgur.com/Cf705qB.png https://imgur.com/11V1kvH.png Absolutely beautiful! Smoke rolled in after a few days out there but it wasn't intolerable. We ended up hiking up Fremont Peak (~13,500 ft) and it was relatively casual, just scrambly in parts.

Re: Coffee and tea-vee

Starting to widen my coffee explorations a bit. Got stuff to do pour-overs with a burr grinder and I've been picking up a new specialty coffee every two weeks or so then really exploring how to make it the best cup for me. Anyone getting any really good beans they like lately? My most recent beans w...

Re: Bikes

All done! (sorta) Gonna keep an eye out for a stem I like. And I have no idea when I'll find a proper seat post but this shim works well enough for now. Then lastly some break levers that aren't so bulky. It is an absolute blast of a bike to ride around on though! 26ers are great. I'm definitely a f...

Re: Bikes

Quarantine coping mechanisms are becoming increasingly focused. I wanted an 80s steel MTB I could run 26ers on and have a good time with. But also commute? Every bike I own has to be a back-up commuter? Gonna try to be good and build this up from the parts bin but we'll see how long I stick to that ...

Re: What are you reading today/book club

@Benson Did you have any take aways from either book about how "capitalist" notions that are embedded in modern relationships were explored in the book? I recall some interviews where the author mentions how they were trying to explore how relationships tend to be looked at as an exchange ...

Re: Bikes

Biking remote gravel roads seems to be the only socially-distant activity this Summer. Pretty happy with how my bike handled! Can't imagine changing anything except ditching the tent in favor of a sleeping pad I don't have to blow up.

Re: What are you reading today/book club

I, like many others it would seem, got all fucked up by Normal People the TV show so I decided to get the book. The TV show was astonishingly true to the book, and I think I enjoyed the book more than the show. I felt like I could enjoy the pacing more. (Sally Rooney is the author) I decided to read...

Re: Bikes

Found this at a consignment store in Flagstaff on my way to Boise, had an empty bike rack so I figured why not. $25 for a steel frame and shimano groupset was a pretty good deal. Has two visible dings on down-tube and top-tube but I'm not too worried. It has a shimano 105 groupset that I think is fr...

Re: Here is ramdomthought!

JewTurk why do you think it's bad to bring in Silicon Valley money into rural areas? because of gentrification + pushing out the people who currently live there? Well, that and: just seeing what has happened to the real estate market in the US (specifically states bordering/near CA). People retire ...

Re: Here is ramdomthought!

How do y'all feel about all this talk about wage adjustment based on where you live re: remote workers? It seems popular response is that it's bad. But I feel like bringing silicon valley "bucks" into rural areas like montana/idaho/wyoming is way more problematic than someone getting a 5-1...

Great compilation by Mississippi records. They put out regular compilations that are typically physical only but man they are great. The first track is a bop.
