Re: What are you reading today/book club

snip i find it really cool/impressive that you picked up anti-o and started reading it. it was always my least favourite book by deleuze and, because he's taking shots at so many schools of thought that i'm not overly familiar with (lacanian psychoanalysis being the big one), i always found it diff...

Re: New Years Resolutions

down to 4 cigarettes per day, which is helping w/ the treadmill thing

Re: Photography thread

it's true that camera lucida can come across a bit dated because of barthes' assertions that photographs grant us some kind of unmediated access to the referent. that said, medium specific arguments in general aren't popular in theory (because they're usually bad). the idea is that affect is in some...

Re: Photography thread

camera lucida paved the way for understanding the preconscious affects of the image. it literally could not be more relevant. once again the world needs theorists to explain art to art people edit: fred moten uses camera lucida to talk about the sonics of photography, for e.g. https://acrowdgathers....

Re: Photography thread

With film if you make a mistake then that's kind of it, very rarely will i ever shoot doubles as its a waste of money. roland barthes says that the mistake is the entire point of photography Hence the detail which interests me is not, or at least is not strictly, intentional, and probably must not ...

Re: What are you reading today/book club

-reads a bit grad student-y, even 'cerebral' writers (say, tom mccarthy, elvia wilk) do a lot more 'show not tell', yknow? like tom was once saying he thought about making the protagonist of remainder an artist- but then the whole thing would just be a normal day's work. if you make the surface mor...

Re: Ask a question, get an answer

millennials will not go gently into the world of pants that touch shoes edit: also i feel like there's a middle ground between massive pools and rolling up your pants to show off 11 inches of sock. id say that pants tapered to have no break and sit slightly above the shoe is probably ideal. this wor...
