Re: Here is ramdomthought!

Were you ever ridiculed for somethingn tied to your cultural identity and/or race? Do you see why that might make someone mad? Yup and yup. Some people stay mad; some don't . If I had concrete advice on not staying mad at ten-year-old remembrances of people, I'd offer it here, but I have trouble ca...

Re: Here is ramdomthought!

yeah were you ever ridiculed because you ate mustard or bleu cheese though? to denigrate a culture's food and then later adopt it? I was ridiculed for doing lots of things that became popular later on. What's interesting is that you're still mad at the way people were ten years ago while I'm congra...

gwern.net: Tea: Water Experiment . The abstract: The kind of water used in tea is claimed to make a difference in the flavor: mineral water being better than tap water or distilled water. Re: I don't know what I want (Buyer's guide)

I want it to be portable and small enough to fit in pockets- not too small tho? Idk What size of pockets? Dungarees, normal, or cargo pockets? Do you think you'll want lined (what pitch?), unlined, graph paper, or dot-grid? You could start out with the "Mixed" pack of the Field Notes Orig...

Re: Here is ramdomthought!

The trouble with noninstutional anything is that you don't get a meatspace community. There's a qualitative difference between having group members all within easy driving distance of each other and having to organize 3-of-200 meetups every 6–18 months.

I get a kick out of recognizing brands I've only known since being exposed to people who care about fashion. I'd no idea Chappelle was a Stone Island fan (NSFW unless your co-workers are illiterate) http://68.media.tumblr.com/7245a1d772f0501dc76f65df0f6d5147/tumblr_muk3mcHRAl1rwsy5jo1_1280.jpg

If you've ever thought "Apple fans claim their stuff is the best always and never have any problems", listening to the three hosts of ATP will disabuse you of that notion. Marco Arment writes iOS apps (including Overcast ), John Siracusa has been reviewing OS X since 10.0 or something and ...

Re: Explain cyberpunk to pirx so he can sell it to old peopl

I don't think there's anything new here. Amazon sells clothes (among other things). Any decent sales assistant will try to learn what she can about someone who comes into a storefront looking to buy clothes in order to steer him to things he'll like enough to buy. Amazon's merely trying to offer tha...

Re: Explain cyberpunk to pirx so he can sell it to old peopl

I strongly suspect one of the reasons why they're pitching this mostly to women at first is because they put a lot more work into having their recommendation engine figure out what makes women look good. This seems to mirror what happens with real people — the last time I poked my head into a female...
