Re: The Price Of Quitting The Game

I'm living out of a suitcase for the next 3 months with all the rest of my stuff in storage, interested to see how it affects my commitment to The Game™. Definitely some things I already miss, but I reckon I'll have totally forgotten about at least half of it by the time I get back. Should definitel...

Re: I don't know what I want (Buyer's guide)

Depends on why you want to change your purchasing habits. If you want to switch to buying things that fit into your current outfits as a way to reduce your consumption in general, and you think that approach will help you achieve that goal then check out The Price Of Quitting The Game and good luck....

Re: Tech-yes!

Good luck! I was so nervous when I first played in a club I could barely queue up records, fingers crossed you are made of sterner stuff. Main things I've found helpful to remember: 1) Records you think you know really well will end up sounding surprisingly different through a club system. That's ok...

Re: 2016 Retrospective

Tell me about how you did in 2016 I bought 36 things. 21 of them were made by Jan-Jan Van Essche (22 if you include an O Project tee). Having sat down and actually added it all up the end result is totally absurd, the most I've ever spent on clothes in a year by miles. This is peak in the game. Non...

Re: Explain cyberpunk to pirx so he can sell it to old peopl

Star Wars was definitely doing the degraded technology thing but it was quite explicitly all happening on "the frontier". The whole Westerns half of its reference points. As soon as they got anywhere near a city it was full gleaming modernity. Also the general idea seemed to be that all th...

Re: News/Current Events, discussion (Bullets, Ballots & Bomb

Absolutely delighted to hear that we've decided to "explicitly rule out membership of the EU’s single market". Hard Brexit here we come! Rainy Fascism Island, back in the driving seat of our own sad, irrelevant destiny. Also quite entranced by the breath-taking chutzpah required to enact 6...

Re: random fashion jersey tucks

Big fan of these political compass memes, especially the ones that sort of make sense for a couple of quadrants but are ultimately just stupid. Like this:

@khayandhi: Any other recs in that area? I have the "1970's Algerian Proto-Rai Underground" compilation (which features that song) and it's full of HITS but beyond that I am clueless.

Re: What are you reading today/book club

my senior level seminar class is on cyberpunk... peter watts - blindsight Blindsight is a fun read ( and is available for free on the dude's website ) but is mostly about Consciousness, first contact with aliens, and space vampires. None of which seem particularly cyberpunk to me? I'd be interested...

These are either some seriously big pants or he's resting his arm on a tent. Would 100% definitely buy camping supplies from Jan-Jan so hoping it's the latter.

Re: Tech-yes!

oucho proper answer to your question: There aren't many nights that I would go to just because the night itself is always good, generally it all depends on who's playing. That said, the Techno related nights I went to most last year were: Siren : On a Thursday at Rye Wax, and also occasional bigger...

Re: What are you reading today/book club

In the spirit of reading books and having trivial opinions on them, this is what I've read since whenever we were talking about Nell Zink: The Schopenhauer Cure by Irvin D. Yalom which a friend said was great but I thought was really irritating and smug. Against Everything by Mark Greif which a diff...

Re: What are you reading today/book club

Have been thinking this week that I now regret giving up on humanities (english flaxy especially) as early as I did (ASAP, ie post-GCSE). I read a lot of books but I feel like I completely lack the critical vocabulary or frameworks to construct a worthwhile response to them that goes beyond "I ...

Re: Tech-yes!

I don't check FACT much but think they've always had quite an explicitly UK / "Bass Music" editorial slant no? Think it's a good thing, I'd rather have some different perspectives in these end of year lists, especially as I don't really keep up with that stuff. Been meaning to make it to a...

Re: random fashion jersey tucks

Thought I'd have a quick read up on The New Aesthetic

I intended, all along, to write a long, much-pondered essay for the rest of you. You, the people who marinate themselves in 5,000-word critical exegeses about contemporary aesthetics.

Re: random fashion jersey tucks

Think you mean No Man's Sky , but as far as I know it kinda sucked in the end, mostly featuring a near-infinite number of incredibly similar, quite boring planets. I don't know if the complaints were about it being boring from a gameplay PoV or an aesthetic one (or both) though. I think some of the ...
