Re: Wristwatch materials, whats your favourite?

on this topic, does anyone else dislike how big wristwatches have become. 42mm seems about standard now for a sports model/diver and it just feels a bit obnoxious to me.

Re: Wristwatch materials, whats your favourite?

i've owned lots of watches- some really beautiful- but they always ended up in a drawer. and then i'd get worried about having things of such value lying around while i went away so i ended up selling them. i don't think what i want exists, i don't even know what it is.

Re: Photography thread

Don’t know anything about photography in any meaningful way, but Interested in seeing if/when photography takes on the purposefully poorly-composed-all-things-in-life-given-equal-weight approach of autofiction in literature a la Shiela Heti or Karl Ove. What’s the photography equivalent of a bad pr...

Re: Photography thread

i have to agree with fellow teen above who asks bela what an aesthetic standard even is. and i actually think photography did have its moment, kind of based around barthes' camera lucida, all photographs being about death etc. unfortunately it just crystallised around that, nobody took the form forw...

Re: What are you reading today/book club

@rjbman yeah thats the one thank you. still need to read some leguin. julius, i read the godfather i think after seeing the film and found it pretty much a potboiler? dont recall any of hte physical poetry of hte film. i think bad books make good films is a decent rule of thumb (solaris, stalker etc)

Re: Gardening

@oucho yep, gardens. more the hieronymous bosch/paul mccarthy variety- space of desire, porous boundary, miscegenation. but still i suppose i should apologise for disparaging comments i might have made in the past.

Re: Photography thread

pretty much all photography is gimmick/schtick tbh, its only meaningful/ culturally relevant form at this point is the teen selfie.

Re: Techdad Discussion

yes, just the reviews led me to expect something more. interesting what you say about spider-man (haven't seen those films) but there was a distinct point during the superman reboot where- having previously done stuff like orbiting the world for fun- the action suddenly came down to a much more mund...

Re: Techdad Discussion

black panther : boring formulaic marvel comics narrative, and i was really disappointed in the way the afro-futurist technology was depicted- all very gleaming, stylised and comic book-y. really struggling to find anything interesting about the whole film beyond obvious woke take.

Re: Photography thread

i think so much comes down to whether you buy into the whole photography schtick and i'm (perhaps too?) resistant. someone like alec soth's work- based on the little i know- appears to rely on easy aestheticism, cliched ideas of kerouac-ian americana, dumb sense of 'authentic' etc. to say nothing of...

Re: We don't run on this high street; we run this high stree

had a quick look at uu, altogether disappointing. white boxy tees are actually off-white, cotton suit is a bit flimsy and washed-out. some of the knits seemed ok. best thing i saw was the 'brown' (actually burnt orange) harrington, colour is really nice IRL but only IT guys wear harringtons. https:/...

Re: random fashion jersey tucks

hedi to celine  . i always found his exclusive fetishization of skinny white youth creepy ( this from someone who wore all DH in 2003). how come there's no backlash against that whole fucking 'boy safari' thing?? spose he's such a reliable earner for all these conglomerate brandz.
