Re: Random Rhetorical Hypebeast Fashion Thoughts

oh definitely, scifi was used especially during the 60s and 70s to discuss certain ideas (le guin on gender comes to mind) without being overt about it. science fiction, good scifi anyways, should be a reflection of the time it was written. and there is positive scifi out there, but I think I'd have...

Re: Random Rhetorical Hypebeast Fashion Thoughts

i think there's probably a lot i don't get here, having not seen either GITS or even really knowing much about science fiction. one thing i didn't understand is the post-dystopian vision you refer to above, her saying ' i want the future to be hopeful' - i'd be interested to know what informs this....

Re: Random Rhetorical Hypebeast Fashion Thoughts

so my issue w/ gits 2017 was that it seemed like they picked out the scenes that folks loved from the original (falling from the roof, the garbage man fight scene, the spider tank final battle) and strung them together with hamfisted bastardization of the prominent themes of the original, mixed in w...

Re: Random Rhetorical Hypebeast Fashion Thoughts

ya as innit said, gits = ghost in the shell. a live action remake of the 1995 anime came out last year and was poorly received

she did a wonderful thread about what it could have been and it is a constant source of inspo for me.

Re: RISE FROM YOUR GRAVE

Nindie Direct today was pretty great!
* Hyper Light Drifter was expected already.
* Into the Breach released today, so hoping FTL follows soon.
* If you own a Switch and haven't played Bastion or Transistor, can't recommend them enough!

Re: Overexposure of Streetwear and the Principle of Rarity

on a streetwear level i'm not sure that i can think of anyone who kept their "authenticity" (keep quotesing it because i'm not sold on it as a valid concept), but patagonia + tnf have done a pretty stellar job of keeping authentic while sustaining extremely growth, would be great to hear t...

Re: Overexposure of Streetwear and the Principle of Rarity

i mean if demand grows naturally and you don't increase production and / or prices to meet it, you're just getting more people who want your product to get stuck with resale prices, which i would consider far more upsetting than some sort of lost "inauthenticity"

Re: WAYWT: Excerpts from books edition

[Heidi] wore what Hollis took to be Girbaud, a sort of Bladerunner soccer-mom look, probably less out of place in this lobby than many things would be. Her dark hair seemed to have been cut to suit that, though Hollis would've been at a loss to explain how.

Re: I don't know what I want (Buyer's guide)

have a pair - they're not 100% waterproof but better than most non-leather shoes. The fidlock / tightener system is pretty damn fun but for whatever reason, both go the same clockwise direction instead of forward / back. for free / cheap i'd say get them.

Re: WAYWT: Excerpts from books edition

The largest, though not the tallest, a black man with a shaven head, is zipped like a sausage into something shiny, black, and only approximately leatherlike. Beside him is a taller, gray-faced man, hunched within the greasy folds of an ancient Barbour waterproof, its waxed cotton gone the sheen an...

Re: forum updates/info

I believe that we could theoretically handle GDPR requests - we've deleted users who wish to be forgotten in the past. That said, we don't have any sorts of automated systems to retrieve all data for users. So, uh, please avoid doing that, EU folks (smiling)
