Tell me about how you did in 2024?
I bought more than I wanted, of course, as usual, no surprises, but I did a quarter of my spending in January thanks entirely to a suit I needed for a wedding. Don't have friends and you won't have to be in the wedding party, save money.
I took fewer chances, bought more accessories, and only failed on two purchases, one of which because Taiwan Sizing is tiny and another because Japanese Baggy Sizing is giant. All in all I'm pretty happy with what I bought, even if some of it was redundant.
I sold some more stuff on Poshmark - I like just leaving things there and rediscovering that someone wants to buy something I have in a box. One person actually responded after receiving stuff and was like, "these are incredible I didn't know life could be like this" which is a nice feeling, y'know, ruining someone else for cheap shit.
I spent another large gap of time living out a suitcase, which meant one pant one short one sweat one jacket type deal in July. My wardrobe is varied enough that I am able to do that for just about any climate and be happy. Very important because my wife loves to pack as much as possible in the Big Suitcase and forget that I don't have anything in there.
I've taken to deleting my fitpics immediately after posting because my kid likes to scroll through the photos on my phone. Sad to miss a historical record like that, but I don't dress that well anyway.
what did you buy that you really love (post fit pics)
Easily my greatest purchase was the Ozism Monk Coat, which unfortunately fueled a couple of other ozism purchases which are also really fabulous for my sensibilities but are not cheap and also not as good as the Monk Coat, which is really on of the best purchases I've made in a long time.
I also bought a Woolrich Pertex shirt jacket (part of that one bag thing in July) and it made me a pertex truther: mountain [redacted] in it when I was sweating like a pig from effort but shockingly comfortable given how often I normally have to take jackets off, put jackets on, etc. Great stuff.
what did you buy that was a huge mistake
As mentioned earlier, an Oqliq water resistant denim shirt. Cool idea, too small.
Worse, a Fresh Service COOLFIBER setup from Haven. Might be neat? Instead, they're polyester pajamas that aren't useful as pajamas and make me look like I stamp license plates for a living. Sold on Poshmark for very little money to a lucky guy who didn't complain too much. Worst thing I've bought in a minute.
what did you like wearing?
I really like that monk coat. Wore it a lot. I really liked that Woolrich shirt. Wore it a lot. My cousin gave me a minor league baseball team hat for christmas last year and I got to it in May. Wore that a lot, looks like it's 5 years old at this point.
what did you expect to wear more often than you did?
I bought a pair of goldwin pants for rainy days but then we had a massive drought so I didn't need 'em.
what does 2025 look like from your head?
I've made it through January without buying anything. I'll probably make it through February, too. I need new snowboard gear.
I bought one T-shirt last year at a concert. I will not be buying any more t-shirts. I will not be buying any jackets (this is unfortunately death for me). I will not be buying any knits. I will not be buying any baseball caps that aren't at a baseball game. Pants are noticeably absent from this list.
