Because to fashion folks "comfy outdoor garment" is an insult.

i thought that hiker core (dressing like a bourgeois vancouverite) was in rn? can someone just tell me what the trend is. and don't tell me that "everyone can just wear whatever they think is cool" i won't believe your ideology. what's the slim jean or wide fit cropped pant of the year 2021

basketball shorts in weird fabrics (big and just past the knee cut), big north face parkas in gore and swishy (veilance tier stuff but not minimalist bullshit), birk clogs or am90s, hoodie midlayers. maybe a dickie here and there

this is it calling it now

most people who are into "hiker core" are not into fashion they're just into instagram

I have sadly not exorcised the instagram demon sitting on my chest but I can tell you both of those seem to be in.

All the teens seem to be wearing distressed jeans and zip up hoodies.

For some reason I think classic menswear items are coming back but not as a whole look. So like a tennis sweater, or loafers but just as a piece. Maybe dressing like Ralph Lauren (the man).

People want to look good for the summer because everyone is hoping things will be better than last summer. Due to the situation caused by the novel coronavirus.

edit: we do know we're talking about the brand Comfy Outdoor Garment, right? http://losthills-store.jp/
i prefer alk phenix if we're talking same vein things, but they seem to be quiet right now. wonder if brand shuttered or something

I think the concept of things being universally "in" is absolutely straining at the seams. It always was but the situation is deteriorating fast.

judging by depop tags anything #fairycore is exploding, the instagram fae are on the warpath

what fairycore actually is, seems like a mix of like vaguely boho tops with like 70s bell bottom type looks, children's aeropostale clothing from 2003, crystals, delicate embroideries, etc.

Image
Joined with the increasing tendency of they/fae or she/fae +fairy emoji bios, I'd say a resurgence of the 1917 fairy craze is well on underway - nothing new under the sun

I feel like that bill quote is WRONG. It's not the commercialisation of subcultures that got rid of what's "in" and also not mark fisher style "ghosts of the past".

I think it's the multiple levels of reflexive irony required to parse what's in, and the lack of any graduation between in and out.

If you get your irony level wrong by one you end up thinking the exact opposite to everyone else (because there's no level of partial in), but getting your irony level wrong by one is easy, so loads of people do it, meaning you end up with almost equal numbers of people thinking something is "in" as you do people thinking something is "out".

milesy wrote:Sure, but why is every other fashion guy I see wearing salomons?
This is exactly it, every OTHER fashion guy, just alternating between fashion guys who think salomons are IN and fashion guys who think salomons are OUT.

It's probably near 50/50, but the weird thing is that the people who think Salomons are IN are actually two groups who have both hit the wrong irony level (one too deep, one not deep enough, because on an objective level, Salomons are OUT)

Code: Select all

Salomons are: Irony level
IN N+1
OUT N+2 <- Objectively True
IN N+3

both “fairycore happened concurrently with Joyce” and “everything is 50% in and 50% out” are dangerously close to the ideal posting style of dropping ‘there is only the eternal dao’ in every care-tags thread
