This is the official care-tags Patrik Ervell thread for all things patrik aka "I spent all this money on clothes and people still think my dad dresses me"

"Patrik Ervell is an American-born menswear designer based in New York City. Ervell is a graduate of University of California, Berkeley where he studied political science, economics and art history.

Ervell is noted for using innovative and unusual fabrics including gold foil, vintage parachutes, fabrics died with oxidized iron and copper, handmade rubber raincoats, horsehair, and most recently splash-dyed silks. His designs are characterized as utilitarian, minimal and elegant.

Patrik Ervell debuted in 2005 at the New York City concept store Opening Ceremony. Upon winning the Ecco Domani Award for Menswear in 2007 he debuted his collection in his first runway show. Since then, Patrik has received nominations for the CFDA's Swarovski Award for Menswear in 2008, 2009 and 2010. Ervell was the runner up for the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Award in 2009. In 2011 he was nominated for GQ's Best New Menswear Designer in America, and the CFDA Menswear Designer of the Year. Ervell shows his menswear collections twice yearly at New York Fashion Week, showing in both presentation and runway show formats. After seasons of presentations, for his Fall Winter 2012 collection Ervell returned to the runway presentation.

Patrik Ervell is carried around the world at stores such as Barneys and Opening Ceremony. Ervell launched his online store in 2010, http://www.patrikervell.com.

Patrik's designs are both forward-looking and reflective of the past, inspired as much by vintage sportswear as they are by contemporary furniture. I love Ervell not only because it fits my body so well but because the designs fit my tastes so well. Patrik straddles the lines between futuristic techwear and Real McCoys-fetishisation of the past, but not in the more overt way a la O.A.M.C. or other vintage-workwear-inspired-but-technical-fabric brands. Ervell is understated and simple, with soft clean lines and hidden luxury, but he is also not afraid to be a bit more sharp or overt, particularly when it comes to fabric use (the gold mylar foil from FW2008 comes to mind). Ervell speaks to both the futurist and the historian in me.

so i own the most useless shoes of all time. these are ervell prototypes that were made for the runway but never put into production.

they're essentially just redwing postmans with a lucite wedge added in. they are so, so useless, but i just can't hate them. in two years, i have never worn them once.

sorry these pictures are horrifyingly bad quality. i can maybe take some better quality ones later when i get off my lazy ass.

here's a better quality pic (i think taken by their previous owner)

Anyone know why Ervell makes the back pockets on jeans so small?

Patrik's totally updated his site as of this morning. Lot of new stuff up there, a lot of the S/S stuff looks great. Not sure how I feel about the site re-design, but people had been saying they'd been having problems with ordering online and such, maybe things will be a bit better from here on out? He's got some band-collar shirts now, which is interesting for him, quite like them.

Yeah @bird.in.flight, that's a question I'm going to ask them at the sample sale because I've been wondering the same thing

Especially because they've been raising prices (club collar was 175 last spring then 190 last season and now 220) so I don't even think this was a decision based on minimising manufacturing costs.
