Urban Outfitters chambray and Target cardigan still some of my most worn/longest lasting pieces, super satisfied with those purchases.

Wore my new Gieves and Hawkes shirt for the first time today

Image

I mostly bought it because I've been looking for a good grey/white bengal stripe for a while and this one fit the bill. But let's talk collars. I'm normally a bigger fan of Italian style arched collars but trying this one on I immediately came to appreciate the strength of the harsher, angled lines of this kind of spread. The angle is really interesting - not a crazy spread but the length and severe sharp shape give it a gravitas and drama that I really enjoyed today. There's also just enough collar gap to nestle a thick tie knot up in half-decently, something that will be a focus of my future shirts as I'm sick of ties slipping down due to not enough gap.

Close-up of the collar.

Unfortunately the collar is really high - I don't mind a bit of excess height to them but this is bordering on gaudy I fear.

A good collar though.

It looks fine from the front, could you expand on your thoughts on why it's too high?

Just stands quite tall above my lapels from the back - better than too short but not what I'd have ideally.

Really gone off wearing shirts lately :( ...unless they're closed placket and the collar neat / small... or maybe no collar at all. I dunno, shirts aren't my thing right now. Honestly, all i've worn lately are those Uniqlo fleece heat-tech mock-neck things (i have them in 6 different colours...), usually under a knit or on the odd occasion an overshirt. I can get more behind overshirts than normal shirts... something thick with an interesting fabric or whatever. I think the only normal shirts i have that i like is an MHL work shirt from a few seasons ago in a really nice dark / rich clay sort of colour, and a dries shirts from last summer in the most beautiful blue!

But anyway, this has been my collar arrangement for the past couple of months and will be for the next whatever amount of time.

Image

I think in spring / summer i'll just keep it the same but switch fabric. No collar 2k14 etc. Woo!
