New York based Canadian designer. Launched her first collection (A-Z) in 2006-- and though I've tried a couple times I can't find anything about her work from 2006-2009 besides a few interviews where she speaks vaguely about it. She launched her Dana Lee line for menswear in 2009 and has been on many people's radar since. Garments are made in Canada (not sure if all) and price is extremely reasonable. Heavy focus on fabrics and texture. the hopsack shirt is a classic that she reworks and does in different colors from season to season. Wish I'd known about her back in f/w 2011 so I could've picked up the lavender one. moar pics prints & texture The beauty of Dana's clothes to me lies in their simplicity. I could see 90% of what she makes being worn by people who have little/no interest in their clothes whatsoever. It just feels natural. Even when she does prints, they aren't overly 'fashion.' I could even buy a piece of hers and give it to my dad. But through all the simplicity, there's a sense of finesse and evident attention to detail in her garments that can be appreciated by people who really do like clothes. Color gets used plenty, but mostly in muted, earthy tones or light blues and pinks. Fit is I think one of the most defining characteristics of Dana Lee, though I don't know how I would describe it best-- would appreciate if someone else could chime in on this. Obviously looser and more comfortable.
