well done
ideally style.com would have taken some super hi-res pics but these'll do

this is fun and cool. you can see the comme influence pretty strongly in some pieces especially the ones with the square/circular panels. bet the materials reinforce this in person. this wide-sleeved crop-top thing needs to die already though and for the first half of the show i wasn't that into it. it ameliorates tho and 2nd half is way better, esp the last half a dozen looks. would wear the green sweatshirt and j'aime la vie tee if they were made for me. best look: Image

agreed on the crop top thing. i like all the looks with a hat (backwards and the visors). the first circular cuts look a bit wonky imo, maybe because the fabric is too stiff to fit well (like here)

springcourts fit very well with brand, the small french flag on the tongue is fun
i think simon is wearing the same outfit as in la piscine lol

i didn't realise at first but the hats were actually made for the show, rather than just props. i wonder if they'll go into production

Image

yeah i don't love the cut-outs; i like the ones with the overhanging panels (here and here). the fabric choices are interesting cos they're so stiff and the colours are so flat. probably cos they're so cheap

haha i thought that too but he doesn't have his supreme hat

I generally hate when girls idealize the French (seems almost weirdly racist) but this is so distinctly, beautifully gallic. There is definitely something they do better than anyone else. I am also made obsessed with Caroline. I don't think I've ever wanted to be someone else so badly.

here's the transcript for the visually impaired

Spoiler:
The buzz which surrounds his name is exponential to his collections. He intrigues or he annoys. Some see him as a twenty-three year old wunderkind challenging the common preconception that avant-garde shows are girls walking in slow motion amongst clouds of dry ice. Simon Porte - alias Jacquemus - has proven a different approach, with his soundtracks borrowed from top 50 heroes of 1984 and his false innocence in how he proclaims that he prefers Philippine to any catwalk superstar, ever since he fell for her wearing a black nylon leotard and trainers. He does not have a studio, no four-figure ban roll, but a press office and a steadfast self-confidence that, in the turn of a phrase, is capable of stigmatising who is 'in' or 'out' in the sphere of Jacquemus. How long has it been since we last witnessed the birth of such a phenomena within a Paris that is circumspect and consensual, scarcely more than prestigious address for international designers who export little more than soulless products as recommended by the decrees of Style.com ? Emerging almost two yearsfrom nowhere, Simon Porte first attracted curiosity due to his amateur-style films shot in a communist era factory, an office that might been Georges Marchais' antichamber, back in 1982. Here his girlfriend-models, styled like minimalist muses, played at being idle workers wearing crop tops and fleece miniskirts. Since then, this Jacquemus labelled package has continually hammered its point home. Exit posh postcodes, welcome to working-class France. Jacquemus has become the kind of label from which it is more likely to receive an invitation to a show held in a block of council flats, than in a private mansion. Thus, for his last opus, everybody was invited to a public swimming pool, which was not really to Women's Wear Daily's taste. Because, if it is already hard for Hedi Slimane to go his own way, it would seem that Jacquemus's declaration of all-cotton medical gauze dresses and plastic kimonos worn directly upon the skin, are tantamount to an absolute insult, particularly when the general consensus on the heavyweight trend for Winter 2014, is for draught-proof textured orgies, worthy of a romp at Premiere Vision. Critics, for the time being, seem to have little effect on him, as if, for Simon Porte, autodidact and fortunate upstart, the fact that he is spoken about, whether positively or negatively, already amounts to a challenge met. "I started in fashion by assisting a stylist. I was bored. I always wanted to be in charge instead of him. In fact, I was really unbearable. One day I entered an awful alterations shop and asked: 'How much to make a skirt?' '110 euros.' And so the next day I came bak with a sketch. That's how my first collection was born. I decided to launch my website with seven pieces and I landed an article in Les Inrockuptibles. Opening Ceremony sent me an email straight after: 'We're behind you.' For the restof my life, I'd like to make between five and seven peices per season, from a single material. I love the idea of a show where you see the same look, repeated from A to Z. That's al there is, and you feel like the designer behind is screwing with you, when in reality it;s magnificent. I've always been attracted to uniforms, work clothes, nurses outfits, overalls. In the future I want to push this register to the max. That said, when I stroll around the production line, I realise that I've already achieved this a bit. All of these hangers with nothing but white cotton, it's abit like a nightmare vision of a hospital. My entourage warn me to be careful. Because it's difficult to find boutiques willing to play along. When they arrive in the showroom, it's almost as if they want to remake the collection in your place. They want to choose the buttons and the fabrics. Frankly, it's a nightmare. If you don't stand up for yourself at least a minimum, then it's pretty easy to end up lost amongst all the compromises. Up until now, I've managed to create collections which aren't expensive to buy, or produce. That's on purpose, and I'm proud of it; it's not as if I was trying to make people believe that it would be better if I had more money. I don't like spiel, wishy-washy fabrics, or stuff added to make it look pretty. The more it's rough and rugged, the more I like it." This straightforward fashion instinct is retained through each of the production steps of a Jacquemus-labelled garment. No sketches of sublime silhouettes on Arches Velin paper, but a notebook that resembles an organised mess, full of biro scribblings, that Simon Porte carries everywhere. No house models with perfect proportions, because he tries on everything on himself moaning that if he can get it on, then it'll be perfect for his girlfriends. "I'd be incapable of imagining a collection for men. I know the Jacquemus girl from top to bottom. If I had to focus on men, then it would be like talking about myself, and that's too complicated." In the end, his idealistic, very grounded character is in the process of creating a new look. "I always insist that the girls in my show walk like boys. I don't give a damn if they look like lesbians. And, it's totally irrelevant whether or not they have perfect measurement. I'm working upon the principle that what touches people, is the energy we communicate. I often feel like magazine are a right headache with all these too readily recognisable outfits. Girls don't necessatily want to be a permanent walking advert for a designer. I could very easily put a collection on the runway, composed of only T-shirts. When I do a pocket, it's a square. My collar is a generic thing, almost invisible, because it's so normal. It wouldn't bother me to be recognised as the guy who does ultra simple, almost too simple stuff. On the contrary - that's really the best compliment I could get."

Interview in Jalouse

Image
Image

In which we learn that:
-Simon emailed Raf when he was 19 to tell him how he respected him, sadly Raf did not reply as it was just before he arrived at Dior (not the greatest timing).
-Minimalism imposed itself to Simon when he first started: he went to see a seamstress and asked her to make the fewest details possible because he didn't have a lot of money. His challenge consisted in making the same dress 6 times - he had to find a way to make it likeable and different each time. He likes repetition and that's his force.
-Jacquemus' style in 3 words: naive, raw, ultra-simple, but not simple. Simple would be jeans and a white tee whereas ultra-simple would be a strong look and not so easy. He likes things simple literally.
-Adrian Joffe, Rei's husband, wears Jacquemus
