therosenrot there's a limited supply of up-thumbs in circulation please don't steal them all! How do you feel about N.D.C. Made by Hand by the way? They've a shop in Brussels that I've peered into through the window but don't know much about the brand.

So today i was at the mall and decided to take a selfie

rick owens gradient jacket x uniqlo x apc x bean

Spoiler:
Image

it's actually a gap women's jacket i tried on for shits and giggles, the RO one was pretty different but i thought it was funny that gap is doing a bit of what zara and topman do but 5 (!) years later.

i'm really jealous of womenswear even at crappy malltier places like the gap because it's just so much better than menswear. the coolest menswear in there was, like, a peacoat with special pockets and epaulets or something. woop de doo.

Not particularly pleased to see the downthumbs getting used when people don't like a fit that obviously isn't taking itself very seriously. That said, maybe the post would be better suited to to the high street thread. It's the ideal place to talk about the paucity of budget menswear options as well as the rip off timetable of mall brands.

whoops hopefully the last two outfits aren't too similar with the same jacket. i love my isabel marant boots! it really makes a difference, especially with comfort, when you get good boots.

scarf is a huge, blanket sized made of washed wool with a southwest inspired pattern

Yeah, those laces would not fly at all in most of Europe.

Cross posting this:

thomaspaine wrote:Bar laces is a traditional skinhead thing but brace and lace code is largely a myth. I'm sure at some point neo-nazis decided white laces would be cool but plenty of people were doing it long before then. It's just a way to make your boots pop more, ie it's just fashion.
I've heard red laces means you're an anarchist, you've killed a cop, killed a black person, are a neo-nazi, etc. Color of your shoe laces only has meaning to people who choose to interpret it a certain way.

As a analogy, let's say white supremacists groups started wearing white pocket squares to show their allegiance to each other. Law enforcement would start circulating this info and eventually through the rumor mill people with no knowledge of pocket squares would assume a white pocket square = neo-nazi. This is pretty much what happened with skinheads and shoelaces.

That being said, if I was white I would probably think twice about the white laces because in the world we live in that's how some people will interpret it.

I use white laces because I like the way it looks and my friend does it too.

That's a naive way of thinking, that's like saying the swastika is still a symbol of peace in Europe. Yes, it existed before the third reich but it was adopted by the regime and is now largely associated with it. We're not on the same scale with white bar lacing but it most definitely carries some connotations. You're reducing clothes to their most basic aspect, aesthetic, even though they've always been an important of most subcultures and a way to identify yourself within a given social or economic group.

I can understand that this is less prevalent in the US and has much less impact but saying it's a trivial thing is out of touch with reality.
