Re: maj
fucking hell. back on here to talk about this.
maj was one of the first friends i made back in the /mfa days, befriending over making 'realtalk' threads etc, to a friendship that extended into real life.
i'm gutted. rest easy my friend.
let's take a moment to remember the fucking iconic video of maj drinking beer out of some rick owens

Re: maj
I have nothing but appreciation for everything she added for us here, one of the funniest and liveliest folks on here in the years where this site was really formative for me
it feels obvious without never knowing it before that she'd be the source of far more than 166 pages of [redacted] discussion somewhere else

Re: maj
It's an odd thing to be Internet Friends with someone. People slide into your life through dumb luck and slide out through changing viewpoints. The cost of having a friend is as low as sharing an interest and talking about it, and losing someone is as easy as just...talking about something else, somewhere else. I can think of a number of people with whom I'd consider myself as having been close that I just don't think about unless pressed, with the expectation that someday they'll slide back into view, or I'll call on them or they'll call on me and we'll happily reconnect, the time and distance not feeling as real as the way you'd miss someone who moved away. Which is to say, it doesn't really hit me that she's gone. She's off somewhere else, doing something else instead of posting here, and I know, in a way that's different from the way that I know this isn't true, that she'll come back and post something wildly entertaining viewed from a uniquely oblique vantage. The cognitive dissonance doesn't have to be resolved. It's very strange the way a dying forum can die a little more.
Re: maj
this news is unreal.
i hope her family and friends are doing as well as they can be doing, including those on here who knew her more personally than me. what a loss.
thanks for posting this thread. it has been really beautiful yet sad to read it through. I was never super close to maj but she was so nice whenever we did talk directly -- and the number of times we talked directly understates the impact she had on me. she wrote so much on care-tags that i read with excitement, interest, laughter... it makes me think of that one emerson quote: “I cannot remember the books I've read any more than the meals I have eaten; even so, they have made me.” maj's personality and opinions was so vital in her posts; they no doubt shaped my own in ways i can't even consciously identify or understand.rjbman wrote: ↑Wed Dec 11, 2024 4:23 pm i've been working my way through her dedicated [redacted] thread over on LFGSS and it's just wonderful. she was such a great writer
