today because i didn't want to bring my entire camera home, i put my sd card in the pocket where i also put my phone, thinking that i'd be sure to remember it's there and to take it out when i get home. but i totally wasn't thinking about how it could just, you know, fall out every time i pulled out my phone. so it fell out somewhere and it could be in any number of locations between my school and my bedroom so all those photos/videos are pretty much gone forever
surprisingly though, i'm not as upset as i thought i would be right now. i've been telling myself things like:
- if all those photos weren't important enough to me to transfer them over to my computer, how big of a deal is their loss anyway?
- i only began learning photography this year and i will most likely think those photos are terrible or stupidly generic when i look back at them in a year
- (of vacation pictures over winter break mostly in hk) my memory works fine, i don't need pictures of things or places to appreciate their existence and impact in my life
- i still have the disposable cameras i shot with which are much harder to lose than an sd card!! i'm really excited to get them developed, particularly one i filled up while walking around at 5am around hong kong on new years. also still have pics from iphone. i think my favorite photo from that time is on there actually, it's this
of my dad and his friend since childhood (!) being cute and happy in a dessert place they used to go to across from their high school in china. i can't read the writing but it makes me want to try learning again
- realizing i hate the bulkiness of my current camera and i only pull it out for shooting/filming carefully thought out scenes, which atm happens exclusively when i get assignments from classes and never for personal development of ideas
- realizing i don't care much for crispy high res stuff (in my own photography)
- realizing i should get a smaller more portable camera. probably a film camera, cuz i like the not-having-immediate-results of using disposable cameras but i want more settings to be able to adjust
i will most likely be hitting up some thrifts or local camera stores to pick up anything i see that works, but having basically 0 idea about film cameras, how do i even test if it works? what common problems should i be watching out for?
or if you have any recommendations or just want to give me some ebay links, these are my only requirements
cheapp - under $50
must fit in my jacket pocket. so fujifilm disposable size, 4 x 2 x 1.25 inches, or anything around that give or take a few, is perfect
