saw book of mormon last night, it was fucking hilarious. sidesplitting laughter throughout the entire thing.

hadn't been to a play/musical in a while either, so that was nice.

i'm attempting to join the master-race legion of ex-smokers. it's been one week.

part of me wants to go extreme without the 'e' and do the whole 'straight edge' thing but I wont because alcohol is great.

Greek life system in american colleges seems pretty fun (even though frats/sororities do seem to get a lot of stick). My friend in the US seems to be having the best time with his fraternity. Would be cool if they had it in the UK. Grass is always greener though i suppose.

i went to an east coast school with a pretty strong tradition of fraternities/sororities. in fact the majority of the social scene took place in frat houses (and not the sorority houses). this sounds weird to people who went to different schools, but these parties weren't exclusive in that literally everyone could walk in. there was a lot of criticism on the male-dominated nature of the parties, the weird way that people would interact in the basements and stuff, etc. it could have been better and it could have been worse.

I don't know how to articulate it but I do this weird thing where if I buy a moleskin or some other fancy writing booklet, I just blank and can't write in it

but expendable and nonglamorous stuff like old receipts or wrappers or whatnot, I can write on those because they're so disposable

weird

can someone enlighten me on buying glasses online? i've always gone to the eye doctor to get my exam done and to buy my frames, but apparently it's very overpriced. i want to be able to have a couple of frames to switch between. how do you get your prescription and how do you get the glass made for the frames? and can insurance from a provider like VSP be used to lower the price of the frames?

@eufeminism

There are a lot of reliable websites that will sell you frames for much cheaper than eye-doctor places (I used FramesDirect and had a very good experience). At least when I tried, a lot of doctor's offices/places like LensCrafters won't give you a sheet with your prescription on it even if you ask (I don't remember the reason they gave but it was something about legality/policy/etc etc). I took a picture of my sheet with my phone when the attendant wasn't looking so now I have my numbers.

The one drawback to ordering frames online is that the lenses they give you seem to be of somewhat lower quality. I have two identical frames that I ordered online, and one pair has FramesDirect lenses, and the other I got filled at LensCrafters. The difference is notable in material. I also have a super strong prescription, so the differences might be more stark than an everyday pair, but regardless.

Not sure about insurance but I remember a drop-down menu when ordering at FramesDirect that had something about it. Might be worth a call to them or a similar webshop.
