Yeah I know I know. Like I said I'm sure he's totally fine. As long as he showers regularly and keeps the room clean I'm cool with it.

Can you build a freestanding house in a major city St 350sqft? Feel like code would probably prohibit that.

350 sqft is like a small studio. i mean people in japan keep shibes in homes that small so many it's not so bad.

lol, i remember when i went to uni i expected everyone to listen to nmh and watch subtitled movies. turned out everyone in my flat preferred to throw up in the communal sinks and break crockery / tables / other things that didn't belong to them. It wasn't until my last year i really became friends with people that had similar interests but even then i realised it didn't really matter much. i had very little in common 'interest' wise with my closest friends at uni (bookworm that read theology, footballer who worked at a chip shop etc and okay, one guy who i did share exact music and film taste with) and i would give anything to go back to riding bikes in the middle of the night, going out for ice cream, playing golden eye multiplayer or just sitting at the kitchen table drinking coffee and saying nothing with them.

while at a restaurant for lunch, i had to go to the bathroom, and noticed that it had a full length mirror, so i decided i might as well take a snapchat fitpic. however, the bathroom was fuckin tiny and the mirror was right next to the entrance, so while prepping my phone and aiming it at the mirror someone barged in behind me and we had the most awkward exchange of both going "AHHH" and me running away

tl;dr never taking a fitpic in a public restroom again

Shit like this frustrates me so much:

Reporters arrested in Ferguson

Image

"Reporters from The Washington Post and the Huffington Post were arrested in Ferguson, Mo., on Wednesday night while covering the protests that have rocked the St. Louis suburb.

Wesley Lowery, a Washington Post political reporter, and Ryan Reilly, a Huffington Post justice reporter, were arrested in a McDonalds shortly before 8 p.m. ET. Police entered the restaurant and told patrons there to leave, the reporters wrote on Twitter after their release. The police then asked Lowery and Reilly for their identification and, according to the reporters, arrested them because they weren't packing their bags fast enough."

American exceptionalism is a delusional concept. People of color are still second class citizens, and systemic changes to fix that are destroyed by the Supreme Court. Press freedoms are ignored by a militarized police force.

@rublev

I felt similarly betrayed by how low brow my uni life was, though to be honest I was at a pretty low brow university. I think high end unis do obviate this problem somewhat though this may be wishful thinking. (Wishful isn't the right word. What's the word for the type of thinking which may not be true, but you're doing it because it aligns with your inner tendency to punish yourself?)

it's fucking ridiculous

Image
Image

first image from the civil rights movement second from ferguson

Image

they shot teargas and rubber bullets at people standing there doing absolutely nothing people were livestreaming it earlier until the camera died but you can see in the first recording what happens
http://new.livestream.com/accounts/9035 ... ts/3271930

the kind of shit that the police are doing over there is like what you'd see in the fucking middle east

Image

Image

Image

the police rolled up to an al jazeera news crew and dropped off a fucking can of teargas so that they'd move away

Image

according to reports all the police have removed their badges and identification meaning they intend to get away with this. monday night they gassed the fucking state senator https://vine.co/v/MYXPAb9XIqZ

tomorrow 43 years ago martial law was proclaimed on st. louis and now here we are again.

and the most amazing thing is that people from the fucking gaza strip are telling the protestors in ferguson how to protect themselves from teargas... astounding that with what they have going on they still have the compassion to try to help others. everybody needs to be aware what's happening, especially those who don't get a lot of their news from online. the ferguson police department barricaded off the entrances to the city... no reporters that aren't already in can get it

I live in st louis. so far have not experienced any craziness firsthand but I'm stunned and frankly disgusted by what has been developing over the past few days. I don't know if I ever would have considered myself "proud" to be an stl resident but I'm certainly not right now, considering its seeming hurtling trajectory toward becoming a police-state. there's definitely an air of mild worry/shame/uncertainty/what have you around. I'm especially worried as there have apparently been riots and a massive police presence right near where my dad lives; I will be going to stay with him soon and will keep updating if anything big happens.

I went to a (I think anyway?) high brow university and it was still pretty low brow to be honest. People did a lot of work but they also drank a lot and watched jeremy kyle like everyone else. I think the turtleneck/beret/proust/left bank student archetype died in the 90s if it ever even existed, to be honest. Apart from at St Andrews, of course, where people really do just drink wine, wear corduroy and burn effigies of Obama.

regarding the posts above, i remember talking with people last year about all the preconceptions we had before going to uni. it does seem to be only the very top universities that seem to have any relation to the (now rather outdated perhaps) view of british uni life revolving around high culture and/or socialist party membership cards.

i reckon that most universities probably have the more high-brow experience that some people expect, as well as all the radical political protesting types, but those 'scenes' are probably a lot harder to find than the typical 'uni lad' stereotype that seems to dominate now. i'm quite happy with the reasonably-high-ranking-without-being-too-high-ranking uni i'm currently at though as it seems to have a nice mix. pretty much suits me down to the ground as i like to watch German-language arthouse films and read mid-20th century American flaxy, but also derive a great deal of enjoyment from getting piss drunk, eating a god-awful kebab and then throwing up said kebab all over someone else's carpet.

Looks like a Ruby script. Have ruby installed then try to execute it from command line (assuming Linux or Mac, if you're on windows you'd need to rewrite parts.

people in the minneapolis bike community are nothing sort of amazing. everyone i meet continues to be welcoming, friendly and darn right cool people. met many new friends tonight and shared beers and laughs on a bridge overlooking a highway. a really great summer night.
