sometimes i hate being the consumer/client of nonprofit organizations, because they're performance based and are at the mercy of the stipulations of grant money and delivering results. as a result, i feel oftentimes there's positive bias and time sensitivity when they work with me. it's not to say that i'm not appreciative, but sometimes i rather take the highway and do it my way alone

dealing with y3-trainer-wearing agency ppl for corporate sponsors of something i'm working on. who want to take artist interviews/work and re-package in meaningless jump cut film focused around buzzwords the internet has told them are cool. i'm 100% certain these people self-identify as 'creative'.

after my flight was delayed ten hours, and after waiting an additional hour for a cab at 3 in the morning, I thought I was finally getting some luck because my cab driver was so cool and we chatted for the whole hour drive to my place. then, because I was so sleep deprived I didn't realize that he switched all of my 100s out for fakes until after he'd driven off and I'd walked inside. plus, since I'm 10 hours later than expected i don't have time to sleep since I still haven't done the homework I was gonna do last night. got around three hours until my 8am class so let's hope I can finish on time

my partner and i have to move to a new apt in nyc.

in nyc, there's a practice of paying a broker to help you find an apartment. generally these brokers do nothing of value and simply must be paid because they have access to the best listings.

you have to pay them 15% of a year's rent. this is several thousand dollars.

why?

so

it's been a while since i last posted on here, obviously lol
past few months have been a rollercoaster for me, had a lot of ups and a lot of downs. obviously, this thread isn't the place for me to talk about what's good in my life, but i just wanted to share 'what's good' >(smiling)

if you've kept in touch with me, or have kept tabs with me on social media, you would probably know that my previous living situation was not the least favorable for the most part. to make things a bit easier to read without having to direct you all to the scathing yelp review (linked for your curiosity) that i wrote regarding my previous building management, i'll just write bullet points of the highlights of wacky incidents that have happened lately with me regarding my old place:

  • i was dumb enough not to inquire about the building management company, but then at the same time they would not extend any information about them to me. i never learnt anyone's full name prior to attempting to look them up through business databases. upon finding out their company name after they switched managements during the first few months i rented there, i discovered that the company, and the owners, have had two foreclosure suits in the property i was renting within the past five years. everyone who i can find that was attributed to the property has had committed some sort of fraud. in addition to that news, i found out that the building management company that supposedly was changed over during the first few months of my lease is the same company, but renamed.
  • power went out suddenly during the dead of winter. turns out the building mistakenly had the electric service provider in the area shut off our electricity valve. i refuse to believe so because they were blaming me for every error.
  • toilet had a huge leak, water was spurting everywhere from the water supply unit to fill the tank up. property management and maintenance blamed me for breaking it, but i didn't do anything at all. plumbing was overall just really shitty. took at least 3 weeks and countless times of me contacting them for them to finally believe me and fix it.

final straw happened when i was trying to move out. to give you context, the management of my building gave me two months notice to let them know if i am going to move out. they would not make any exceptions to that rule, and only gave me 5 days to resign my lease. 3 of the five days was spent with me trying to contact them because they did not give me the right information, and 2 of the 5 days were over a weekend. they did not give me a copy of an executed lease.

fast forward two months, this was during when the power went out suddenly, and when the toilet needed to be fixed. one of my friends was staying over for the weekend. when maintenance came in to try and fix the toilet, the guy was interrogating me on how many people were in the unit. being courteous, i politely answered the current situation, but then he reported to management, who which then attempted to chase everyone out and call police authorities. apparently in the lease, it states that no one who isn't renting or paying cannot stay in the property for more than 3 days, or more than 6 days, if one were to inform the property manager.

so, i asked if i can add robbie to the lease since he is living with me. the property manager was like Hell No. they did not offer any other solution, and was not cooperative so i asked if i can do a buy out as courtesy for the upcoming lease, which then they misinterpreted that i am buying out of my then current lease april 2015 - may 2016 (they gave me a month of free rent because that was an offer they did but then they're just shitheads for doing that), while i mean that i was buying out of my may 2016 - may 2017 lease that did not even start yet. they are also insisting that the new lease is full in effect in the month of april, but ??????????????????????????????????

right now i'm seeking legal advice for this, and i gave them 5 business days to respond to me to show evidence that they do not have my information or right to use my bank checking/routing information anymore. today's the 4th business day, and they haven't responded or gave any receipt of email regarding it.

sorry that this is a mouthful lol and this ain't even all of it.

people in seattle are fucking idiots when it comes to issues like homelessness. claims to be a liberal city but what i've seen lately is 'tough love' policies like forcefully clearing illegal encampments and stepping up patrols / citations. all shit that we've done for the last 20 years while the numbers of people living and dying on the streets go up and up. And those policies aren't even as bad as what I hear normal civilians suggesting online.

spent all morning reading the cesspool of comments on some local news sites because I do some advocacy work in the city and feel obligated to understand the temperature on such things but now i feel sick.

Austin has the exact same problem, plus it doesn't help that a student at our University was murdered by some random kid. They stepped up security, one person started a petition to bus homeless people out of town, racism was amplified, etc. It's gotten pretty bad.

I've always liked the idea of publicly funded, permanent housing, and it seems to do a pretty good job

I fell asleep on my four hour bus back home with those flimsy Poland spring water 16.9oz water bottles between my thighs. Little did I realize until I woke up that I didn't close the cap and my thighs squeezed water all over the crotch area of my shorts. It looks and feels like I pissed my shorts.

I didn't piss my shorts.
