today i went for a walk (first one in a while), nice but surreal to see how empty the streets of the CBD are nowadays.

then i ended up in uniqlo and impulse bought some sale wide pants. not bad i guess.

(next week i start running again)

One day soon we will all leave our phones unlocked in our pockets and the auto reply text feature will create our care tags posts for us.

I'm a big fan and longtime resident of Chicago, but I honestly don't feel like its all that interesting of a city to visit. The exception is probably our restaurant scene, so I'd recommend planning your days around where you want to eat. Recently, I've eaten really well at Avec, s.k.y., Testaccio, Cellar Door Provisions, Parachute, Big Jones, Daisies, The Duck Inn, and probably others. Chinatown and Pilsen are great for Chinese and Mexican food. Eater and The Infatuation generally have pretty good restaurant reviews. Hard pass on deep dish, personally.

In terms of tourist stuff the Art Institute is obviously high caliber (be sure to visit the miniature rooms and paperweight collections in the basement!) and the Chicago Architecture Center offers really good city tours. I did the architectural boat tour for the first time a couple months ago and loved it.

The lakefront trail is also really pretty, especially if you rent [redacted]. It's also fun to rent kayaks and spend the day on the lake or river.

Oh also White Sox games are criminally underrated. So you can get pretty good seats to see the best team in baseball for like $25/ticket and its crazy easy to get to Comiskey on the CTA.

are we still doing chicago recs?

the food and beer options at the cell or whatever its called now are really good, probably the best in baseball at least in terms of, like, your typical sumemrtime baseball fare. i went to a mariners game a few weeks ago and they had din tai fung and local clams and stuff, which is a different level from, like, a chicago dog.

i think gino's is the best deep dish (as far as the chains), but it's a really divisive thing and i eat it like once every three years.

three dots and a dash is fun for groups if you want everyone to get smashed and take the edge off.

otherwise i guess just enjoy the lake?

Dunno what to think of this article. I doubt it shows anything anyone reading this doesn't already know. I'm honestly kind of shocked by the final paras that regurgitate the same concept of subculture's needing time in the dark before they're harvested by marketing that I used to regurgitate years ago after reading some billy gibson interviews. (I don't truly believe this anymore, but also would be hard pressed to tell you what I do think about subcultures. Maybe nothing)

Can someone younger than me tell me if there really is a "mass migration" of people away from "instagram" and "towards the shadow social" ? Personally I do not see it but then...I wouldn't would I.

Twitch does not count, obviously lol.

on the social media topic

everyone on tumblr is going crazy over the newly announced "tumblr post+" which is basically patreon for tumblr -- you can set up a private post stream only available to paying followers.

(beyond being a totally idiotic idea, the announcement/launch has been totally botched)

just makes me wonder when we'll get monetisation of care-tags -- we already have the spoiler tag, just make it pay-to-open. @rjb i want to engage in such shenanigans
