who funds this? I don't believe that hba is a commercial successful enterprise.

I don't know if this is fair but it looks to me like yohji ss15 with random craig green inspired details and HBA written everywhere

the whole show just reminds me so much of yohji ss15

I get how referencing that yohji collection might work with all the bondage fetish shit they do but why just copy craig green like that, overall I don't like the collection much

HBA is growing on me, if only for the space they're carving out for non-white, queer influence in fashion. I don't think the total looks are wearable for anyone outside of the club scene in New York but there's a weird, disturbing McQueen feeling I get from this line sometimes. This wasn't my favorite collection of HBA but it's strong and wrong, and worth looking at which can't be said for about 90% of NYFW.

I think some pieces are really good and new but taking from past collections and the scene they market to I can't really look at HBA as I do other brands due to dismagazine (now shit) there isn't a whole lot of money because of their shtick but most pieces here look like concepts that weren't fully developed. "almost there but not quite"

I feel like that statement is like a micro aggression or something. Like you're implying that Chinese people have poor taste.

i don't think it's a matter of taste or anything like that guys. also don't think it's wrong/microaggressive to say that a large percentage of this brand's visible sales (ie the answer to "who buys this") in north america belongs to a specific demographic (but im also not part of that demographic so i could be wrong)

different cultures and subcultures have different expectations of what a persons relationship w clothes should be and i think it's clear that the HBA/mcm/guiseppe/givenchy/whatever look isn't a look that's supposed to look "good" to people who are interested in fashion in the way that we are but rather a means of projecting status / visible luxury.

they look good to the people they're trying to look good to (which, again, definitely isn't our niche community).
