Re: ramdom thought thread revival
It has been a while since I felt immersed in a meaningful project. Granted, I've had a pretty tumultuous year or two, and really haven't found a likeminded community here in mpls. The pursuit that always fascinates, motivates and stays with me is social design. Creating space (in a myriad of forms) for community and dialogue. I might say all of my proudest or most satisfying moments have been in pursuit of this.
Even when I (like everyone in my gen) daydream of a rural, off-grid life, there is an undercurrent of social design. It always involves giving back to a community, either one out there or back here. It often involves living with friends, providing communal space.
Living in the city can seem like an industrial wasteland sometimes, but I feel an affinity for my neighbors. Underneath a lot of bullshit there is a comradery that I believe can be the strength for love and support on a mass scale. I want to tap into this, I want to dedicate my work to this.
How to begin is daunting. For starters, every organization is inherently divided into profit or not-for-profit. And either comes with limiting, rigid regulations and definitions dictated by a capitalist (and thusly bureaucratic) framework. I don't want to care about profit at all, honestly. This fundamental flaw is often what cuts any ideas off at their germinal stage.
What to do / what to do...

thinking abt it in a quantitative framework makes it nigh impossible to imagine outside of a barter or exchange of sorts imo.
try ur local community gardening plot! i’ve gotten into gardening again (thanks dad lol) and being able to gift the yield to my neighbors n community w/o any expectation of return is one way i feel i try to escape. i dont wanna think of quantifying the worth of something nature does for free lol

Working in food is depressing. I just got offered $16.50 at 3 michelin star place doing pastry in NYC. I'm accustomed to what's traditional in fine dining but my god who can live on that
