biggest advice is to wash the shirt before you draw, and wash inside out or hand wash cold after drawing.
I've used sharpies, which work well but fade over time
Otherwise the fabric markers u can get at a craft store work okay, they are just more expensive and usually have less ink
Even ballpoint pens can work, it mostly depends on the tone you want and how you treat it afterwards.

as requested, some shots of my modified Kenzo jacket. It's been heavily distressed, both over time (bought used and owned 8 years) and manually. I love the two-tone nature of the wool and how each fray can bring forward the red or the black. The front has crushed-rose beads from an old rosary I had as a child. The back features a flattened belt buckle I found in our alley last year.

The theme of this burton vest is rabbits. Featuring a lucky blue rabbits foot from an antique dealer, and a Edwardian era picture lace panel.
