i got to meet the head of Majestic Paris, an incredibly large luxury t-shirt company and supplier (they supply to Gucci, Louis Vuitton, etc., they have insane fabric production, they source from Hermes, etc. etc.) and in his mind, the middle is falling out of the fashion world. as he sees it, the low-end, fast fashion business peaks at Zara and everything above Zara but below a Barney's, let's say, is virtually extinct or heading that way soon. (he hates Zara, but he acknowledged that they are quite simply, crushing it.)

he also said, which i thought was very informative, that when you're out looking for a good solid t-shirt for your closet, but you see a plain black t-shirt that's $100-ish dollars, you turn it down in favor of something from like Banana Republic or Zara that's cheaper, or even something like T by Alexander Wang. however, in doing that you're buying something you don't really want in an inferior quality (here's looking at you Wang) instead of something that's going to last you for years and a million wears and washes, because the immediacy feels better than the sound long-term investment.

it was a very interesting psychological look into how and why we buy.

I think maybe one factor in that hypothetical t-shirt buying scenario is how you're able to evaluate quality? I know I'd be reluctant to buy a high-end t-shirt without being able to handle it in person. There's also the confounding factor of there being both high-quality $100 tees and $100 tees that are indistinguishable from AA or whatever.

Yes when it comes to strangers I'd rather get chatted up by an attractive member of the sex I'm interested in rather than engage in the weird Pitti-like social dynamics of the male fashion arena.

I bought some maharishi 3xdry sweatpants in a size S and I think they're too small. I can't take it this is the second time this has happened. Why can't I get some maha 3xdry trousers without messing up the sizing

A strange game. The only winning move is not to play.

Julius is a silly brand. Got my gasmasks in today (a tad large, gotta wear a belt, damn!) and the fabric is "cotton satin." Dude, it's just a medium weight (maybe a heavy?) chino-style twill.

Do you just tell them you know what the Jarvis teens are buying and they give you the keys to the city?

@natural.log

tell us more

advertising is all about content right now, and podcasts are super hot. add to that the gibson-esque mystery surrounding anonymous and semi-anonymous internet hydrating Jarvis forums and i think they think im some bladerunning hacker with a direct connection to the amoral transhuman subspecies called The Demographic After Next.
