Re: 2025 retrospective
Tell me about how you did in 2025
I spent less than I normally do but bought more than I normally do, a function of habitually browsing ebay. Having been priced out of standard clothes prices, tariffs greatly cooling my proxying, and being a "chopped unc," I found myself actually scouring the second hand markets for stuff that was released 8 years ago.
My main purchasing category was Pant. Love Pant when I can't do a Jacket. My wife moved the long mirror up to our room. I can no longer snap a pic when i walk out the door unless I go into the bathroom, so you can't actually see Pant.
what did you buy that you really love (post fit pics)
The two things that really got me were a pair of Fujito fleece trousers that I got from the NMWA sale as an afterthought (measurements made it look like they were tiny but it turns out they actually fit great). Now that the weather is cooler, this is my "get dressed in the dark because my child woke me up at 6AM" pant. Sometimes my daughter rubs my leg and goes, "daddy I like your pantsies. Nice 'n' soft but acceptable in public. They look like this (me not pictured):
The other thing was from a confusing and ill-fated collaboration between Rip Curl and Byborre - I guess all this stuff got liquidated and now lives on ebay? Dodged the obscene retail price tag and ended up with a heavy duty hoodie (thus violating the official care-tags hoodie numbering rule by about 5). The thing is like a thunder blanket for people also it has a fun texture.
what did you buy that was a huge mistake
Had a lot of these, and mercifully the damage was light and the clean-up was easy.
Bought a pair of Frank Leder pants from that NMWA sale. Can never tell how that guy is gonna cut things, but I'm not convinced he has hips. Had to resell.
Bought a pair of ts(s) trousers in my standard size but they were HUGE in the waist - gave 'em to a friend.
Bought an adidas x white mountaineering jacket for a song - felt like a standard adidas track jacket. resold for a total of 0 dollars lost.
Bought some JohnUndercover pants for a song that had an...obnoxious detail that I didn't notice. Passed onto consignment.
Having not learned my lesson, I bought the GUxUC suit. It was passable but the cut was not made for a man shaped such as I. Passed on, hopefully making some youth happy.
These diemme x byborre boots are goofy as shit and I look forward to taking them out. This wasn't a mistake, I actually love them because they make me laugh, but I just haven't worn them yet since I haven't needed to. I suppose the $70 of poshmark monopoly money I spent could've been spent elsewhere but probably not.
what did you like wearing?
I bought this suede shirt jacket last year off an Internet Friend despite my being anti-western-wear and mostly not feeling like a leather guy, and I'm glad I did. It's got a nice weight to it.
2025 was The Year of Black Fleece for me, so sitting around in black fleece samue and pants was common. I have lied to myself that having a noragi-or-similar in 2025 is no longer embarrassing the way it was during the big noragi overexposure of 2018. This is a sdifferent black fleece suit but the general idea is there. Black fleece photographs terribly.
I also continue to wear my byborre stuff pretty regularly. It is a stalwart at this point in my WFH career.
what did you expect to wear more often than you did?
Every year I seem to rotate what my cold weather clothes will be. Sometimes it's flannels/shirt-jackets, sometimes it's sweaters, this year it's sweatshirts. So my sweaters (of which I bought none) and my flannels (of which I bought one) did not see the same play they normally get. When Boethius' great wheel spins again I'll probably be back on sweaters.
what does 2026 look like from your head?
I really don't know, I really filled out the corners of my wardrobe, the envy of every 2013 MFA poster right now. If I can't buy pants, jackets, t-shirts, shorts, sweatshirts, sweaters, caps, shoes, socks, underwear, cardigans, flip flops, suits, ties, or swimsuits, what else is there to buy? I feel like Alexander the Great. What am I supposed to do, wear the clothes I have?
I also need to get rid of some suits whose shoulders and back no longer agree with the volume my body currently occupies, but they're so cool I don't want to get rid of them. Making my peace with this will occupy a large portion of my year.
On the other hand, I am VERY excited to not dress under duress, in the dark immediately after being woken up. It's so close I can taste it. Soon.
First of all, how dare you? Second of all, it was JUST three jackets, and they're all technical! For specific purposes! The specific purpose of having "pertex" on the label! One thing that might be considered a jacket can also be considered a mid-layer, which is what it is.

Tell me about how you did in 2025 / what does 2026 look like from your head
i could and should have done better. i attempted a settling down of sorts in my life pretty much just meaning that i picked a city to live in indefinitely. but i did not put any effort into making that a good thing and instead just made my life really boring. i must change this in 2026. i haven't a clue how.
i started fishing in the rivers in 2025 and caught a lot of salmon. in 2026 i will catch more trouts.
i bought climbing equipment for outdoor sport climbing around fall but did not manage to find the right weather in 2025 to go out. in 2026 i will do so.
i stayed at my current job (startup that is almost certainly failing in the next 6 months) for all of 2025 even though i meant to not stay for longer than like a year and a half. in 2026 i will either lose my job to bankruptcy or quit and find another job.
i failed to do any meaningful dating in 2025 other than one time but there was a severe and fatal failure of connection. in 2026 i hope to succeed at connecting and in loving.
i didn’t really make any new friends in 2025. if i don’t make any new friends in 2026 i believe my life and whole self will implode. it is frankly dire
what did you buy that you really love (post fit pics)
i bought the nicole mclaughlin hoka mafate which i really enjoy wearing. i do a trick where i pull out an object from the pocket of my shoe when i’m feeling scared in a social situation and it helps ease the tension and then we can talk about shoes. and they are extremely comfortable.
what did you buy that was a huge mistake
a freaking $1600 whistler season ski pass as well as a $1200 annual climbing membership. i don’t do either nearly enough to justify it. but i’m trying to care less about money. and i do love skiing and climbing. i just wish they were less expensive and i wasn’t doing so much math to figure out how many times i need to go for them to be "worth it"
what did you like wearing?
i liked my fishing outfit this year. i look good in my fishing outfit.
i also really enjoy wearing my two camiel fortgens grandpa pants that i got for sixty bucks each on vinted. i'm so scared of wearing them out and needing to buy new ones because i'll never be able to find them for sixty bucks again.
i also enjoyed wearing my suicokes way too much. as well as this 18east jacket thing i found at beacon's closet.
what did you expect to wear more often than you did?
i bought a wonderful pocketed out s2w8 jacket at the grand opening of the williamsburg 2nd street and i wore it exactly once on the day that i bought it and then never again. only because it’s almost never the correct weather to wear such a jacket. i just need to buy a milsurp liner or something to wear under it and then i’ll wear it a lot.
i don't even have a fit pic with it. but it's this one

Tell me about how you did in 2025
I started a new job that required going into the office once a week. As much as I don't care for the hybrid work model, it did mean that more clothes were added to the rotation and out of their WFH-induced rot.
This was also the year of casual suits/blazers for me. It all started after I tried on a lovely vintage green blazer. Alas, it was much too wide in the shoulders.
what did you buy that you really love (post fit pics)
John Partridge balmacaan coat: similar to a Barbour Burghley but with snap buttons down both sides which allow it to really open up and create a wonderful shape
Y's for Men x MASSES: unstructured jacket in a lightweight felted wool that gives it a great texture and drape. BIG PLUS is that while the body is unlined, the sleeves are lined which means my shirts won't get caught and bunched up.
what did you buy that was a huge mistake
It may be too early to tell but I picked up these CdG cords on clearance a couple months ago. I love the placement of the pockets and zip detailing but the material is much shinier than I anticipated. Please shower me with ideas!
what did you like wearing?
I lost some weight this past year so I've been able to fit into more of my old clothes I had stored away including a Julius SS13 blazer, Temple of Jawnz MDR, Rick Owens FW16 cardigan, and Zam Barrett overlocked jeans. It's been fun feeling like a walking time capsule
what did you expect to wear more often than you did?
This past summer, I thought I would have worn more typical Rick Owens outfits (tank top plus pod shorts) but I found myself always gravitating towards my Needles HD cargos plus an oversized tee from a local cafe or restaurant (this is a category that is slowly growing in my wardrobe). They've truly been my workhorse pants ever since purchasing them
what does 2026 look like from your head?
Probably more casual suiting. I recently picked up an EG cord jacket off ebay from what seems to be FW10 which I will be throwing on as a midlayer
